  • "tsunami" is Japanese. it's literal translation is "big wave" a tidal wave is basically the same, only smaller. BUT (and i'm not 100% on this) tidal waves stay out in the ocean and occur during storms, whereas tsunamis occur along the coast and are considered natural disasters
