  • There are a number of reasons for syncope, but I wouldn't trust her vitals remain unscathed during these episodes. You need to deal with this with her doctor. If you don't get answers from him/her, you need to find another one. Teaching hospitals are great places to turn if you can't find a PCP or specialist who can find the cause.
  • consider that it might be a type of seizure. my daughter had something like that at age 5. lasted for 2 years, they called it epilepsy. it started out as "absent spells". we were barely aware at first. a few mos. later she would pass out for about 5 mins. or so. tests revealed epilepsy. in about a six month period she went from absence spells to seizures. medication hepled and it all stopped in 2 years. she is now 22 and completely free of it since then. that is my experience with what sounds similar. tell your doc. everything and watch close when this happens so you can explain well. good luck.
  • Thanks for all the great suggestions.....At long last, we have found out what was causing these spells and we would like to share what we have learned in hopes of helping others. She is one of a handful of people that can not tolorate ANY type of steroids. She was using a steroid inhaler for her asthma and the steroid in the inhaler was crossing the lung barrier and going into her bloodstream, causing an overdose. Her body was not able to process the steroid fast enough before the next dose. She is now off all meds that contain steroids and has not had a spell in 12 weeks!
  • Go to the doctor. A 1h loss of conciousness is not a simple faint. It's pretty worrying.
