He didn't 'respond' in the normal sense. He was overheard in a private conversion, and some unscrupulous people decided to report it online. If your Presidents are not allowed to speak like normal people once is a while without people waiting in the wings to broadcast everything they regard as an indiscretion, then your country is in a pretty sorry state. And from what I hear, he was absolutely right.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't inappropriate per se, and the man is both entitled to his opinion and free to express it. But a standing president's comment, however negative, on hip-hop artists and talk-show hosts does a lot more to diminish the president than the pop icons.

First of all, what he said is what most people seem to be thinking after yet another Kanye outburst at another awards show (this being one of his worst ones, however). BUT, what Obama said was off camera and off the record. The inappropriate one is the reporter who felt the need to make public what was said in private...no matter how true it was!

What if the president (any president, not just Obama) appeared on television and said that all black people should be killed, or you are no longer allowed to have free speech, or you need to have a license to have children, or anything else of a questionable nature. He's got as much freedom of speech as anyone else. He's also as responsible for what he says, so if it's slander or liable he may have to pay some consequences. But, to be fair - the guy's got a lot more mikes on him and under immense scrutiny all the time. He shouldn't be judged for an unguarded moment. +5

I agree that the President, but also everyone, should be able to say what he wants. I do not think he went over the line. Just because he was elected president doesn't mean his opinion isn't worth anything. Will he take some heat for it, of course, because everyone should be able to say what they want. I disagree completely though with the last part of your question regarding we should support him. I did vote for the guy, but that was before I recognized the futility, in its entirety, of it. I am against war, yet we are at war. It's unfair that less than half the population is employed and essentially supporting the larger half. There are solutions to today's problems, but Obama doesn't even come close to them. Therefore, I do not support him, nor will I ever support another politician, again.
