  • That is not unusual. MS Paint operate on .bmp files by default, and those .bmp files are HUGE. saving the image as a .jpg image will lessen the need for memory. But many operations will still want to temporarily expand the picture to uncompressed bitmap form (.bmp) If you are working on digital photos you should be aware that an 8 megapixel image needs something like 32 megabytes in bitmap form (32 bit color). That is still not 622 Mb but with undo stores and intermediate copies you get there fast.
