  • Of course it's normal. He likes to travel. If I had the choice between an iPod & going to Tokyo, I'd choose the trip to Japan.
  • Your bro is doing the right thing by traveling, at least he is investing his time on something he likes to do, instead of buying laptop, TVs, sure you can view them on those thing, but why do that if you can go see the real thing. Its perfectly normal.
  • Your older bro sounds pretty smart to me. Normal being what the majority does, then no it is not normal. I applaud him.
  • He fits the spending pattern of an "experiencer". Experiencers, who like to spend their discretionary income on travel, eating out, and other ways of passing time pleasantly, tend to be a happy bunch. http://www.webmd.com/balance/news/20080814/which-shoppers-are-happiest
  • People who are into the stuff you think is normal are the wack jobs to me.
  • It's not necessarily wrong. It shows he values intangibles and self-improvement more than material goods. The experiences you garner through world travel are with you forever; no one can take them away.
  • Of course it is!!! He's actually a very smart person in fact. He knows that the value of taking in different cultures of the world and making long time memories for himself by way of travel is MUCH MORE important then material possessions that here today, gone tomorrow. When he has kids, he will have stories to tell them about all the amazing places he's seen and been to in his lifetime. Whereas with material possessions....all he'd have to brag about is the expensive clothes that he bought that didn't fit anymore and the laptop that became a dinosaur after just a year of it's exsistance. After weighing the options, the smarter pick would be traveling. Smart man
  • thats better than normal. thats what i do. i travel everywhere
  • What is normal? There are many degrees of normal and many definitions. I find that someone who spends lots of money on things that become obsolete very quickly is kidding themselves. I buy only when the old is no good/can't be fixed anymore and we have done lots of traveling. No cell phone that takes pictures, no ipod, no laptop, regular tv (25 inch) etc. I'd call him normal unless he is swimming from the U.S. to England. LOL
  • Who cares if it's normal or not? Normal is rarely good.
  • Your brother sounds like my type of guy. After my first professional job, which I worked for one year and saved $11K, I quit and lived in France for a few months. I was 23y.o. and it was THE time of my life. Drinks, girls, cafes, bars, girls, excursions, clubs, girls, awesome food... did I mention girls? I also now have a lifetime connection to the people I met there and always have a place to stay in France, England, Sweden, and Switzerland. I had a similar and thoroughly exhausting experience in Spain. Of course, not all trips turn out to be so great, but for me it was ABSOLUTELY worth it! And I now have Perspective out the wazoo! Travel is good for perspective. I recommend it to everyone.
  • I see nothing wrong with that. I think ppl who do that are very interesting. They have travel stories to tell and I would much rather listen to a persons travels than here them talk about all the junk they own.
