  • We have always been selfish. However, it was in the interest of the individual to act 'socially' as this increased the liklihood of mating and reproduction, food, and survival. Now, most of these needs are virtually satisfied in society. We dont need that social interaction that we once did. SO it is only more prominent now.
  • It's human arrogance that believes that all this is here just for us.
  • I am afraid that those with the unselfish gene tended to die out, leaving those who are selfish.
  • Momma always said Stupid is what Stupid does [Forrest Gump]
  • GREED & FEAR..the end
  • The world in general does think of themselves. However, I know many people who care and tworry about others. I care and worry for my boyfriend, as he does for me. It may seemt that people ONLY think of themselves but that statement is not fully valid. Some people are fully into themselves because they have no one else, or are obssesed with work and money. The world is an ugly place, but everything has beauty (even if hidden). Have an extrodinary day/night : )
  • Hey now, not everyone is a Republican! A theory of mine is that in k-12 school, it seems the motto is lookout for number one. This carries on later in life.
  • I worry about the entire world, especially when I see people viewing it in this light. I think that there are just as many selfless people in the world as there are selfish, but sometimes it is in our nature to focus on the negative. Maybe because it's easier to see the impacts of selfishness than the selfless acts of others.
  • You must not be a student of history. What's new about that? If anything, I think the nascent movement to care about the whole world is encouraging.
  • Well when people live in a world full of vanity...then when it comes to Things...being humble is something that really doesnt exist that often. Cuz people are always worried about getting more, and better...instead of giving more, and being better.
  • IF you take ANY animal and CREATE deprodation on that creature then you have one that can only function at the base core level of survival and the survival instict is to kill or be killed and you have created a system that exploits this fact period and there is no better way to achieve this goal, and trust me it is a goal of some , than by "demonizing" who you have your sights on and creating the conditions that prove your right about them period and any creature will kill to survive ...and our goals and yours are very very different always have been .. ~Nemo~
  • I'll bite, why shouldn't I worry about me? Are you going to pay my bills? Are you going to take care of me when I'm sick? Are you going to do my chores and homework? Are you going to go to college for me or maybe do my job? Yes, I worry about me, believe it or not we're suppose to, if we don't take care of us, how in the hell are we suppose to be there to take care of anyone else? However, I do expect you and everyone else to do their part, when that's not enough, I will always be there to hold your hand.
  • Your question assumes we accept your premise that it is so - "that we have became a world that only worries about themselves. I'm not so sure this world is a whole lot different than the previous world except how one sees it. This question or it's like has been asked for generations. If this answer is not acceptable I'll than go with - the world is fluid, static, ever changing -nothing is ever the same. If you would like a third option I can go with - because of moral decay and approaching the day of judgement; sinners repent. +5
  • Not in my area. In my area, everyone worries about everyone else's business EXCEPT their own. I wish I could live somewhere where people worried about their own business.
  • I see a lot of compassion out there toward other people. If you feel that way, practice random acts of kindness. Open doors for older people, let other drivers in front of you, and I think your mood and view of the world will change.
  • Because we have yet to prove the existence of life on other worlds.
  • Because of materialism, and because of capitalism. If society were much more Socialistic, i assure you compassion would be more prevelant. Capitalism promotes greed, and selfishness, even at the cost of others, it is the most evil economic/political philosophy ever, and the main reason we have become a world of "me,me,me"
  • We did not become like that, it has always been that way. What is more interesting is how long it will take us to move forward? +3
  • Because, as a race...humans suck. I was going to give a huge explanation here, but I realized it really just boils down to that.
