Talk to them about the good and funny memories you have with them. Even if you think they can't hear you (in a coma or ?), they still do.

When my best friend was dying she told me one of the hardest things to deal with was no one wanted to talk to her about her dying. She understood people were not sure what to say. So we talked about it a lot, then how she had planned her funeral. What she was going to wear, the music, flowers. It brought quite a bit of relief to her heart. Talking about old memories was also uplifting. Then we said our goodbye's.

You stay open and sensitive to their feelings. If they have any fear, you address that gently. You talk to them, comfort them, pray with them, laugh and cry with them. If they ask you to do something for them you do it. My friend who was dying (the same one I spoke about earlier) said to me; make sure you tell people that Jesus is real and to ask him into their lives. Believe that he died for your sins and rose again on the third day. Believe, just long enough to make that decision and your life will never be the same again. God will increase that measure of faith. Using myself as an example: I believed long enough to make that decision in a bible study. I left and had no church, no home, no car, no money, had no christian friends or a bible. But I prayed, Jesus, if you are really real please show me, I sure do need some help. As I stood there, a christian drove up and asked if I needed a ride. The rest is history 45 years later Jesus is still working in my life on a daily basis. He has never left me, not once. (he took me to His Blessed Shelter a christian outreach of a church which became my church.)
