  • In Australia, if you are following someone, and they suddenly break, if you hit them from behind, you are at fault. This is simply because it is to be expected that you would have been travelling the safe and recommended distance behind them, which would have allowed you to break in time - including suddenly - without hitting them. The person who hits the car infront is always at fault.
