Like "boo hoo" crying? When I was a kid I'm sure, but only really once as an adult, when Mom died But like eyes watering uncontrollably from pain, a few times, usually hockey related, and one visit to Cedars Sinai with an unsolved stomach pain

Yes, this week in fact. I've been having terrible headaches that seem to have been the result of severe dehydration following surgery. I thought I was drinking plenty of water, but apparently I should have been drinking two or three times as much as usual. My blood volume dropped dangerously, depriving my brain of oxygen and the resulting headaches made me collapse, screaming and crying uncontrollably. I was incoherent much of the time and in and out of consciousness. I've had two screaming runs to the ER in an ambulance and it took a week to finally figure out what was wrong. I hope I never have another week like this one. It has been horrible and humiliating. But there is always another side to everything. I found out this week just how much my neighbors and my church family really love me. My neighbors heard my screaming and came running. They helped the ambulance crew extricate me from my tiny bathroom and clear my living room and get me on a gurney. My church friends did the same when I collapsed in the church bathroom. My Bible study group have been clearing their calendars and pelting to the ER to pick up my child and take her home with them. They've been spending days sitting with me when I couldn't safely be alone. My wonderful husband has been a rock, not leaving my side for days and giving me wonderful care. My six year old has successfully gotten help for me three times, even when the first time required searching the church and breaking up a vestry meeting in a far back room. And even though her birthday fell in the middle of it, and all she got were the presents I'd already gotten and taken out to dinner by daddy and a cousin, she cheerfully proclaimed this the best birthday ever. What a brave kid.
