  • The different tribes each have their own rules. To start, she needs to have proof that she is descended from an enrolled member on the Dawes List. Then she needs to fill out an application for a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB). This requires certified copies of birth certificates from the original enrollee, and all descendants from there. In my case, my Grandfather was an original enrollee, so I needed his, my mother's and mine. For more information, see this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Certificate_of_Degree_of_Indian_Blood
  • Yarnlady's answer is dead on the money. The site she has posted is also right on the money. Sadly not all tribes can get this benefit only those that have registered (many have not). A lot is determined through how much of her blood is Native American. To see if she is qualified you will have to fill out a form through gov.org websites they should have the proper paperwork. If she qualifies They will have to determine where she has to go to obtain the card and with the card will have a list of the benefits. There is no way for anyone to tell you if it is worth it until you fill out the paperwork. It is different for nearly everyone. Note: Anyone rating these answers should keep in mind that Yarnlady's information is dead on correct and she should maintain top rating in this question. IMHO
