  • Your supposed to wear a mask - what the f you want to go blind. There are all sorts of eye drynes relievers at the pharmacy. Also expect your face to peel. moisturize now.
  • Watching a welder without wearing a mask, huh ? Bad. Very bad. The last time I heard of this was a guy watching a welder on the boat back in '86. The feeling is akin to someone having thrown a handful of sand in your eyes (he said anyway). Nothing he tried worked, only waiting it out worked (took about 12 hours for the effect to die down).
  • You need to try to be innovative. There must be a way to shield yourself. (I must confess - I'm an engineer and not a welder - so I am hoping for an answer to share with others) On the other hand - I have known other people who have damaged eyes and skin seriously. Also on the other hand I have known others who smoke and don't give a damn unitl they are blinded burnt can't breath and die happily.
  • put thin potato slices on your eyes, i have burnt my eyes befor, it works! leave them on for about 15 mins and try to stay out of bright lights. keep re-applying the potato slices and stay out of bright light untill your vison is clear, ^,^ i learned the hard way that it works.
  • there are none...regardless of what everyone tells you.....seek medical assistance and have your eyes checked....try to keep them closed till you seek help....I have had this happen before and if I was any later i might have lost my sight....
  • I, too, caught a welding flash from my high school shop class during the 50's. The burning pain woke me up during the night. My mother put a little evaporated milk in my eye and it soothed/releived the pain so I was able to go back to sleep. I had no problems from the milk.
  • As a welder, I try to avoid flash as much as possible. Unfortunately you cannot always avoid it, so here are a few of the home remedies I have found over the years. 1: Potato peels. They help, but you need to keep applying them. 2: Vicks vape-o-rub under the eyes. It makes your eyes water which helps lubricate them. 3: Genteal re-wetting solution. This one comes from my eye doctor. It is safe to use and will not make the itching worse like Visene. I hope they help.
  • First off I would ask you if you were using the proper eye protection. I knew somebody that insisted it was perfectly okay to use regular sunglasses.
  • As a matter of fact there is. Grate a raw potato and apply it to your closed eyes for about a half hour. It pulls the 'heat' right out. That was a trick my dad used for years. He worked in a corner, and the flash reflected back into his welding mask until he jury rigged a curtain to stop it.
  • Eeeesh. You need to get to an eye doctor right away.
  • I have used cold meat piece and sometimes cold towel on my closed eyes.It gives some immediate relief. If it doesnt work for you ,please see a Doctor.
  • Avoid burning your eyes at all costs! The damage occurs inside the eyeball, so all potato peels in the world won't do you much good -- maybe they'll soothe you, but they can't repair the damage.
  • Safety first never watch someone else or weld without welding goggles or a face shield for welding.
  • Emergency at the hospital if you value your sight.
  • I realize your eyes are most likely okay now and you're probably not even on answerbag anymore but just in case anybody else is looking for this information here you go potato, ice packs, tea bags, cucumber, milk, rosewater, wet cloth, banana, nutmeg and milk, almonds http://www.stylecraze.com/articles/effective-home-remedies-to-treat-welders-flash/#gref
