  • haha why would you ban dodgeball? It teaches some hard lessons, but in the grand scheme of things, it really is harmless. If we shield our kids from everything, they are going to be in for a world of hurt when they get older.
  • Why ban it? Why not ban football or basketball? Ban band and proms, too and while you're at it, ban lunch.
  • The trouble with having such a large diverse population is that these questions can no longer be answered on a "countrywide" level. There are times in school, (seventh grade being one)where there are widely divergent "size" of student. Having a 160 pound, six foot coordinated boy snapping basketballs at a four foot 95 pound child who really doesn't want to be there is unfair, unjust, and unAmerican. Children are "Forced" by law to attend gym class. HOWEVER, I have nothing against an after school dodgeball club on school grounds (if the insurance companies permit it which they are increasingly loath to do)BUT even hera students should be "classed" by size as well as ability. I still remember this big knuckle-dragging Cro Magnon child who could throw the basketball so hard that it actually flattened against the gym wall before returning to him for his next shot. This boy was so good at this that his team mates stood around and did nothing except feed the executioner balls when he needed additional, unless the other team recovered the ball. This only happened if some brave soul "sacrificed" himself by turning his back and deflecting the ball. Half our team went home with VOIT stenciled across our ass from where the ball hit us! Oh, BTW this was NOT fun for anyone except the imbred cave child, and the gym teacher (who must have been a sadist) BUT this did "teach" me something, by high school, I had prefected (through hours of practice) a great dodgeball move where I took the ball, and hurled it like a shot-put while jumping off the floor. This move always got the target below the knees where it was almost impossible to catch. As my team got their hight and weight, we won more than we lost. Unfortunately, I during this time lost any love I might have achieved for any sport. This was war, and like most soldiers, I hated it! The cave man boy quit school in the eleventh grade, and with his parents permission enlisted in the army, and went off to die in Vietnam.
  • Dodgeball is a good way to teach kids the value of exploiting the weak.
  • Never ban dodge-ball!! We never had more fun in school than ever when we were playing dodge ball. There wasn't a single person in the class who didn't cheer when we were told thats what we had on that day!
  • no ban ,kids love it, in any sport there is risk of injury, if they ban that whats next
  • Not to ban. Its an amazingly fun game. Then again I always loved gym and competitive sports, so I am only looking at one side of the spectrum
  • Dodge Ball (we called it Battle Ball) was one of my favorite things in grade school. In the years we played, other than a few scuffed knees, there were no serious injuries. There are people in this world that believe they can make everything free of risk. If they have their way, we'll all be wearing helmets when we sit on the can; there's a lot of hard surfaces in the bathroom. I'm growing weary of the alarmists.
  • No its a fun sport :D altho I did always get busted!!!
  • banning dodgeball is like taking away my oxygen supply.
  • why ban dodge ball...because there is a risk of being hit by a SOFT ball? Might as well ban football while your at it...I am sure there is more risk in being tackled.
  • It is dangerous, especially, when you get hit in the face. Or when your opponent is fed with steroids. Sure it should be! Because, this is the only game, where you have to hit your opponent, hit them all out to win. And what does that teach children? Violence! Throw stuff at your friend, because it's fun?
  • No way! Dodgeball is awesome.
  • Kids love the game, but some of them are quite strong and can seriously hurt another player. As long as the rules are set right and there is supervision I don't think it should be banned.
  • Heck no! I was hit hard three times in the face from all the way across the gym (astonishing aim and power, there) by balls thrown by a future starting offensive lineman for the Chicago Bears (he had a career-ending knee injury the year before they won the Super Bowl), and I turned out ok. This touchy-feely-warmy-fuzzy-overbearing over-protection of kids from any insult or scrape is stupid and misguided.
  • by the way....this is not my answer....it is Q-peds... http://www.answerbag.com/profile/?id=808690 Chris- you need to fix this I don't want to get you point...thanks for anwsering.... I think it should be band because it shows too much dominance at such a young age. The kids that are stronger will stand out; not like they don't anyway, but shouldn't stand out is such a physical way. I now as an adult play Dodgeball and now see how we as kids might have been trying to knock someone out while playing. I think there are better games that they can keep score in and that is not so physical..
  • i heard it was banned in school because of fat kids or something. if it were up to me chubs would be taking one in the face
  • No ban. We need to stop coddling our kids. Where do you think the influx of neurotic 12 year olds who are afraid to go outside came from? I loved dodgeball as a kid. Kids need to learn that life's not always fair and they are going to have to deal with it, or else live a life of insecurity and poor self esteem.
  • No. It was a very fun game! I always survived to the last half (because I was quick on my feet (Or was it my popularity?)) but never threw it. BTW, might as well ban football and basketball if you're gonna ban dodge-ball.
  • umm... no tell the losers to stop whining and get used to taking balls to the face
  • banning dodgeball is unamerican.
  • Not to ban, dodge-ball was my favorite activity when I was In school besides kickball!!
