I turn off equipment in standby or not being used even microwave ovens.

We are very careful with electricity, not allowing things to be on standby unless we use it constantly, using task lighting, being careful with water usage since we're on a well. But we're also frugal with food, buying in bulk and fresh, cooking from scratch, growing some of our food from saved seeds. We also keep the house cooler than usual since we buy our firewood to heat the house, so we may not make a fire on some days or just keep it around 60F during the day and lower at night.
