  • Yes. I still don't believe in a God/Goddess etc.
  • Well I don't know a whole lot about Wicca, but I do know that it is a celebration of nature more than it is a religion, but it still does involve magic, the manipulation of natural forces throughout concoctions, ceremonies and all, and maybe all this drawing of energy is real...but they also have head deities, at least one, a goddess named Brighid or something. If that goddess is used more as a means to symbolize their practices and beliefs that nature is the one true force OR if they actually worship her how God is worshiped by Christians I really don't know... But a lot of it seems illogical to me, (Philosophy illustrated by actual magic séances and ceremonies? The hell?) and I think that a big part of Wicca is approached and adopted for the sake of shock value, especially by young people who don't fit the norm, just like plenty of neo Pagan religions or philosophies. (Although Wicca is actually pretty damn ancient, older than God, although its beginning, while the proportion doesn't match, was as deadly and immoral as the early Christian days.) Still I can't say, and I'm actually wondering where you got the idea that everything from Wicca would be fine for an atheist? As I say I'm not familiar with Wicca, but in my personal case, I'm atheist because the most significant and socially active parts of religions seem to human to me to logically justify the existence of a deity, and by the power of human attribution seems not plausible at all...including God, Buddha or Brighid. Even if Wiccans don't actually worship anything, their practices still encompass the same behaviors of most religious folks through faith, and that's another thing I don't believe exists outside of man's need for psychological security. Incidentally I stopped following LaVeythan Satanism when I discovered that EVEN if LaVey meant what he believed in and told everyone about, half of it exists to bash Christianity and nothing more, (Which is as hypocritical as those who they would point the finger at.) and that everybody else who took up Satanism did it to be different and knows nothing about its values-which are as ridiculous as Christian commandments and values but whatever. I think that the same, (And yes, I'm aware that Satanism and Wicca are not related in any way.) with many people, happen with Wicca. Just because someone's a Goth doesn't mean they have to be a Wiccan. There are plenty of serious ones, but I can never learn much from them because they make fun of me and insult me when I question their beliefs, just like theists. So maybe the fact that half of its practitioners use Wicca as black sheep flag doesn't help, but for the more serious ones, and in my personal view of atheism, Wicca stems form a long time ago with acute and concrete beliefs that resemble that of plenty of other religions so...I'm sure there's a lot of things that Wiccans may believe and that atheists will reject, because atheism doesn't exist just to dismiss God, but the entire concept of a deity, wherever it's from. (Unless you're an atheist for the sole purpose of bashing God, and as for you Yarnlady, I know that's certainly not the case. :) )
  • Well, Wicca as defineable for all Wiccans is religious witchcraft. Not all Wiccans acknowledge the God and/or the Goddess - some believe in just the All which is not a deity so much as it is the name of the Collective Energy that pervades all things (so there may even be some agnostics that can believe that). However, for atheists, I've yet to find one that believes in witchcraft - which is pretty key for all Wiccans.
  • Wicca is a religion. Without a supernatural deity, there is no religion. Witchcraft, on the other hand, is a craft, a practice, and not a religion.
