  • i make less trips to the store and only buy things i really need
  • eating at home more, not going out as often, not going on drives to random places if its not needed, carpooling with people who live close, finding free or cheap things to entertain you
  • I got rid of my GF therefore I won't have to pay her mortgage & bills !!!
  • Not spending so much on shoes and clothes lol
  • Staying in, and opting for quiter nights rather than all out partying. Being more flexible when it comes to clothing, I try to mix and match my clothing items, rather then always buying new clothes, which usually end up unworn with all the other stuff in my wardrobe. I m still a student, an I have to save money, or else I'd be skint all the time! bleh!
  • Sitting home constantly and buying the bare things needed.
  • less processed foods and cooking more
  • Just making more prudent purchases. Fortunately my pay has been very stable. I don't get a couple weeks off for Easter like some people do though...
  • I enjoy cooking so, for example, if we have roast chicken for Sunday lunch, I will then make either a curry or pasta dish with leftovers and then make a stock from the bones which I later turn into soup. If the chicken is big and we're on our own for Sunday lunch we sometimes get sandwiches as well! This is just one small example.
  • Well, I have saved quite a bit of money by using my cell phone as a home phone. I was paying $45 a month for a home phone and now only pay $25 a month for my cell phone a savings of $45 a month.I get my internet through the cable company therefore I get about 25 free channels eliminating a bill for cable tv. I use coupons at the grocery store whenever possible and buy family packs as they are often cheaper I usually buy most of my clothes at the second hand stores. My family rents a cottage for a week in the summer and splits the cost of the cottage. We also used airmile points and converted them to grocery coupons to buy food while at the cottage. So a week at a cottage with a pool, canoes, etc cost me about $200 a week, all meals included. Not too shabby!
  • Mine is a simple living lifestyle. That automatically saves alot for me....
  • Bare minimum driving. No land line telephone. Nearly no eating out, including fast food. Lights off as much as possible. CFL and LED lights as much as practical. I've lived with my beaten and battered coat for this winter instead of buying another. repair anything I possibly can myself: plumbing, auto, wall, door, furnace, appliances ANYTHING so I don't have to pay someone for it. At my store I've taken on more shifts so I don't have to pay more employees. Cut my own pay back twice. keep excess lights off. Turn the gas oven off as soon as possible. It's a little bit of twisted logic, but I've cut back in a way by raising prices. Minimized my employees per shift. Increased direct advertising such as doorhanging and direct mail since I know my competitors have decreased so it is more worthwhile. Again repaired anything at all myself that I possibly can. I've worked around some equipment I couldn't fix so as to avoid the repair or replacement costs.
  • I cut back through enforced poverty. I take 20% of my pay and have it direct deposited away somewhere where I can't get t it as easily as say, an ATM, but I can still get at it within 24/48 hours. Forcing myself to live on 80% of my take home pay keeps me from trying to live beyond my means, and makes me really think about what's a want, and what's a need. Also makes me think about how to get what I want for cheap/free.
  • "cutting back"! Ha! every time I try to cut back and think I am doing well something breaks requireing a large layout of money....the most recent the AC went out and I had to buy a new AC...Where I live in the South it is already in the mid to upper 90s every day and nights only cooling to the upper 70s to low 80s and the humidity is high also causing the heat index to be from 105 to 118! And summer isn't here yet!
  • I allocate myself a certain amount per week, then i bank the rest. Sometimes i splurge though :D
  • To add to what other's said about eating in more. If you're a meat eater like me, try to find a whole-sale distrubutor for meat, or a farm that sells sides of beef. Buy a chest freezer and it'll pay for itself after a while by stocking it with beef and pork that will stay fresh for 6 months to a year. My wife and I purchased meat from distributor who provides meat to Applbees, TGIF and Sizzler. A case of steaks and burgers came out to about $6.45 per meal for BOTH of us combined. That case contained, among other cuts, 8 fillet mingon's by the way. Just that is worth over $100 bucks retail.
  • I have 2 small boys and a boyfriend... We only get things that are on sale, and only when we absolutely need them. Coupons are great too especially when it comes to buying diapers every week. Not to mention we smoke, so coupons for cigarettes are wonderful as well. (They are out there!!) Getting some freebies too is a great way to save as well. Go to http://www.heyitsfree.com
