  • No. We can't go on attacking every country that disagrees with us.
  • This war is inevitable. The choice is as follows: Will the US war be with Iran armed with Nuclear weapons, or Iran without Nuclear weapons. ----- Comments: Captain Birdseye: I don't believe the war is inevitible, merely that the US wants it to happen. nevets: I think you are wrong, but I respect your opinion. slevin01: There are other countries that have nuclear weapons or are in the process of acquiring them, should we be fighting all of them? nevets: Do you know the saying "Gun's don't kill people, people kill people?" slevin01: I'm not sure what your point is about the saying "Gun's don't kill people, people kill people", in terms of how it relates to my comment. nevets: My point is that owning nuclear weapons is only a problem when you factor in how those weapons might/will be used. --------------- If you don't agree with me that is ok, but you should not rate this down -5.
  • No. When you are in a hole, stop digging. Is there any reason whatsoever to believe that a war with Iran would be more successful than one with Iraq? The government of Iraq was a cruel dictatorship, yet the citizens fight back against the "liberators". The government of Iran is a heavily slanted democracy - it has much more legitimacy than Saddam did. There is no hope at all that an invasion of Iran would not be *at least* as big a mess.
  • No, The vast majority of this country is against going to war with Iraq, It isn't our place to dictate to people how they should live their lives and what they can and can not have. What we should be doing is shoring up our defenses to ward off agression from another country should that happen. But by no means should we be running around bullying and trying to dictate to other countries how they should or should'nt live their lives. Sometimes I think that the Bush admin. wants nothing more than to start WW3, and that simply isn't acceptable. I believe the American people are fed up with the Bush admin. and there will be some big changes in the next election.
  • I'm sure they will. Maybe not this year or next year, but within the next decade. Wether they should or not is not really the point. They will, sooner or later, but first they have to convince the world that it is in their best interests to do so. So the question should really be 'Have you been convinced that invading Iran is a good idea, or is the US government required to propogandise you a bit more before giving your silent approval?'. I believe this will happen because exactly the same happened in Iraq. The invasion of Iran is not inevitible but the US will make sure it happens, they've got tons of oil. The invasion of North Korea will be put off for several centuries, or until they have something worth stealing from them.
  • No, because that would just get more people killed. Iran does NOT have nuclear weapons. According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies, "if Iran threw caution to the wind, and sought a nuclear weapon capability as quickly as possible without regard for international reaction, it might be able to produce enough HEU for a single nuclear weapon by the end of this decade" assuming no technical problems (http://www.iiss.org/showdocument.php?docID=661). If they tried that, the rest of the world would find out almost automatically due the CIA probably having a hundred or more agents in the country logging every move the government makes that could be construed with aggressive foreign policy. Until this happens (which I doubt it will), America has no grounds to attack the country. Iran may be an ultra-conservative state, but that doesn't make it unique in the world. Now, if America would just cut down on it's military spending, we could focus on more necessary things.
  • I see all the fear factors are steadily being put into place in the news and the media - it is kind of deja Vue or Groundhog Day all over again. We here in Australia are getting a steady diet of the old terrorist adverts again ad nauseum. With elections in the air and incumbent leaders in strife I worry about how they intend to turn that all around.
  • The US has more nuclear weapons than anyone. Why do they claim the right to determine who can own even one?
  • No, i'm pretty sure what the world is searching for is a sense of peace, and George Bush is pulling us much farther from that goal. Why would anyone agree with this question? If you agree you're agreeing with innocent people being tortured and killed...i'm pretty sure any human being with a heart would very much diagree with war in any circumstance.
  • No. If the US goes to war it could turn into an "end times war". The whole Muslim world would be enraged, the conflict in Iraq would spread, Iran would attack Israel, Israel would nuke Iran - from there on there are a number of nasty scenarios that could develop.
  • Oh yeah, great idea. It's not like the US army is busy or anything!
  • Not unless they did something really, really bad to us or one of our allies.
  • Should we commit suicide? No, I don't think so. We can barely make it right now, going to IRAN could be a disaster.
  • NO, We should wait for israel to bomb them, and then help them in the war :-/
  • NO, wasen't Iraq enough ? havent enough people died ? Its time to talk peace, not easy but better than this.
  • Only if the foreign policy people in Washington want to see the whole of the middle east in flames, Israel under increased threat from it's neighbours, more people killed for no reason across the globe, and Americans given a less than friendly welcome in practically any country they visit. Then again, from here it seems the foreign politics of the village idiot has held sway for some time in America, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if it happened......
  • Yes! Iran is playing an important role in the iraq war, and it is a war that i believe should of happen and needs to be won. Since iran is helping terrorist killing our troops,It doesnt matter if they dont have nuclear weapons YET! And since they our killing out troops and helping out the insurgents by arming them and training them,I say kill'em all!
  • Iran is no threat to the US and is not threatening the US.No ,it does not have the moral right to go to war with Iran.
  • Yes. We could defeat them left-handed.
  • Actually, now that we have been stratigically placed....yes....We would of course bomb the hell out of them first...then the ground war would begin. Before that...it would have been a really tough fight...;)
  • Without breaking a sweat.
  • First - have they defeated Iraq? They could certainly occupy Tehran and other major cities - though at a much higher cost that Iraq; you are talking tens of thousands of casualties. But holding it would make Iraq look simple.
  • LOL... the US couldn't even secure the Embassy there. (Kids, ask your Parents) Iraq was supposed to take only a few months. Iran would be a bigger disaster.
  • In an initial invasion, yes. The result would be another Iraq and the creation of several million new terrorists (because the entire Middle East will feel threatened, be offended, and conclusively see the US as attacking Islam). The US declaring war on Iran is the equivalent of the US declaring war on the entire Middle East, and I'm not talking just about the governments.
  • The Iranians must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear device or perhaps even fissable material. That said however, it would be in American & Other Free Countries best interest to allow the UN to broker the deal. Be it economic sanctions, strategic bombing or an all out war. Only a Unified Free Country commitment and or NATO Military Action should be pursued. This was the tactic that George W Bush used in the first Gulf War & what is what George HW Bush failed to do in the current Iraq War. I believe the current Bush administration is in part setting up the rationalization and the case to go to war with Iran with some of the current statements and posturing concerning IED's and arms suppliers to insurgents in Iraq. However, with little more than 1 year left in office, King George Bush does not have enough time, enough political capital or the support of the American Public for Another War. Congress most likely would not authorize Military action against Iran and King George lacking congressional approval would be impeached, removed from office and leave a legacy of incompetence, arrogance and "labeled" the single worst administration and president in the History of the US. A legacy the Bush Family wants to avoid even though many of those terms have already attached to the current administration. Barring a major misstep by Iran and a direct provocation of the US or perhaps Israel, the same cat & mouse game will continue with tough talk from both sides and no real progress on a resolution of the Nuclearification of Iran. Republicans will likely keep the attitude "Leave it to the next administration & congress to sort it out".
  • If the US went to war with Iran the only way they could win would be to go Nuclear (I dont advocate that they do!) and it would scare the hell out of the rest of the Middle East, in case they were next.
  • US is having a hard enough time in Iraq not to go to war with a country that would be 5 times harder and with morale as it is already. That would be the dumbest thing that the US could ever do.
  • Please let's stop these wars.
  • Absolutely not. First of all, these wars need to stop. Call me a "bleeding heart liberal" or whatever label you can come up with all you want, I don't advocate destruction and a loss of lives as a reasonable method of bringing about peace. Secondly, we keep digging ourselves further and further into the middle east. This road leads to Pakistan. Who does Pakistan have alliances with? The Chinese. Who is Pakistan at odds with? India. Who does India have alliances with/ties to? The US. Needless to say, if this continues the way it has, things will not be very pretty.
  • If they went to a head-on war - Iran would be demolished. If it was an insurgent-style war, the US would be put on its knees. Either way - It couldn't be good.
  • Got Qwestion wrong Should GWB go to war with IRAN Appologies to all actives concerned.
  • No, why set ourselves up for another disaster.
  • From what I have seen on Answerbag if it was left to a popular vote it would have already happened.
  • The biggest problem with discussion with issue is that we do not clearly identify who we will be fighting. The assumption is that our superior military will overcome the Iranian military that is not so good. We better look again. We will face Russian and Chinese weapons and support. China has major investment in Iran. The Chinese have built a pipeline across Kazakhstan so Iran can send oil across the Caspian Sea to the pipeline. China loses their substantial investment if the USA controlled Iran. Russia is a significant and substantial supplier of oil and gas to Europe so some European countries will be slow to support military action. We are rapidly intruding into Central Asia where the USA is resented. There is a Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) which conducts military exercises with Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan that will oppose us. The United States is over extended militarily and economically. The United States would need a quick win. Even if the United States were to occupy Iran, we would face a similar problem as we face in Iraq, except the population is about 65.6 million according to the CIA. Our troops north of Iran in the old USSR would probably be overrun. We could become mired in Central Asia that will be difficult to supply. The real danger is that those opposing the United States could see this as a chance to even scores and open fronts elsewhere such as Taiwan. We could see a much wider war. Big wars come when either side miscalculates or one side is perceived as weakened. If there is a major multi-front war, many more nations will be pulled in the conflict. Trying to predict this kind of war is impossible. Historically, the experts were wrong. By the way do not think the USA mainland is exempt from attack because it is not. I think that war would be crazy and we would lose much more than we can gain. In regard to nuclear countries the following have nuclear facilities: Argentina, Armenia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, South Korea, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States. We should practice cooperation and not war.
  • No but it will if it keeps the mindset of the current leadership.
  • no.not at allllll !!! b4 arguing about it...just think about the innocent lives lost in iraq and afghanistan... America is fuelling terrorism...not getting rid of it...cuz wen u make sum1 terrorist u make him fight against u! if u convince him u make him calm... decide what america is doin?
  • Of course not! Imagine the same disaster as Iraq, but on a much larger scale.
  • I think we should worry about ourselves and quit trying to dictate every one else's foreign policy. Make sure your house is clean before you start bitching about your neighbor's. Many countries look at us as having so much potential to do good and our current administration has disappointed them with its arrogance. The only reason to go to war with Iran would be if they attacked us. We need to take a good look at who our allies are and if they are assholes, we need to get out of the entanglement. Having blind support for a country that insists on conflict will do nothing but get you into a war you don't need. When you have a bunch of little countries acting like bad-asses because they have U.S. backing, you are heading for trouble!
  • ONLY IF BUSH CHENEY MCCAIN PALIN AND ROVE ARE IN THE FRONT LINES LOL LOL
  • NO, but my opinion wouldn't count for much. Bush never asked us if we wanted to go to Iraq.
  • yes. I t must, or face obliteration by Muslim fundalmentalists.
  • NO. We must stop fighting wars to protect Israel.
  • Why? How many countries can we wage war on at one time? And how the heck are we going to pay for it? And if we win, ( a highly unlikely outcome,), then what do we do? No - a war with Iran is a stupid idea.
  • It would be easier to go to war with Mexico. A solution of proximity which would stop immigration. Before you say they are not our enemy. Consider this. Is Iran? So it makes no difference. War is necessary only for political means. The taxpayer would pay less fighting neighbors.
