  • Well that wouldn't be near as much good PR.
  • no. a child is a child, no matter where they are from. ive been to africa i know what those children have to face up to its horrendous. youve no idea. i understand americans can have horrenddous childhoods too, but there ARE places to go.
  • What difference does it make what country the child is from? If a child needs to be adopted, it needs to be adopted. Country of origin means nothing. Really...think about that from a morality perspective.
  • Yes they should but choose not to take care of the nation that made them! what an insult! take care of your own first then help thy neighbor, for if your home is not in order you fail your neighbor and your own!
  • If it were me, that's what I would do. But I'm not rich, and I'm not famous. Many adoptions in the U.S. these days are either open, or could become open eventually. I think that's a good thing, on balance. But if I had a couple of hundred million dollars in the bank, an adoption where one or both of the biological parents could potentially show up might make me think twice. It's not so much that you know they would cause trouble, it's a question of thinking about what kinds of trouble, and how much trouble, they could be if they wanted to. Again, I think that's probably unfair to the overwhelming majority of people who give up children for adoption. But money does distort things and if you've got a lot of it, I think it's something you have to consider.
  • yes they should and they could to continue to adopt kids through various places like christian children fund, they take your money to the child ,let you visit them, and you become a foster parent, but the child continues to live in their own country. With their own family and parents.
  • I agree with what others have said, A child is a child. What they are showing us is no matter what color or country the child is from all they need is love of a good home. Both of these women help our country alot!
  • There are many kids who are in need of a good home, regardless of country. However, as Austinius has stated, the P.R. wouldn't be nearly as great if they adopted within their own country. There are many other examples too of celebrities helping out other countries while forgetting about their own. And those who do concentrate their efforts on their own country just don't seem to get the same amount of press.
  • I've never understood that argument. A kid's a kid's a kid. If it were possible for 3 or 4 year old kids to understand, they would tell you to a kid that they don't care who loves them, as long as someone does. Americans have adopted from China in big numbers for years. Those kids are as American as you or me. Sure, maybe these stars are hoping to score popularity points, but if the kids are loved, who the hell cares.
  • It bothers me to no end that people lament about the children in other countries when we have children right here in every state in the US living in utter squallor. What about them? What about their education? What about their living in the richest country in the world and having no shoes on their feet? No indoor plumbing? NO FOOD?
  • A lot of the rich and famous want an infant overnight. All the money in the world cant buy that in their own country so they look elsewhere. Then they look good to the whole world, and pay someone else to watch over it.
  • Hopefully they do donate to charities in this country for children in need. I do believe they adopt for genuine love and also unfortunately for PR.
  • i think they should adopt anywhere. The thing is, there are so many other people that can adopt in there own country first. In Africa, they don't get adopted by other people from their country. They have to live in these conditions, because pretty much everyone else is in the same position. But in the U.S., there are other people that can adopt these children.
  • My relatives adopted foreign kids because the process was easier.
  • Yes, it seems to me that adopting from your own country first seems logical. But I know many people that have adopted from either China or Russia.
  • True, but in most of the other countries ( not ALL ) alot of them are poorer or there might be alot of diseases running around and the like. There's alot of babies in other countries that are already suffering from some sickness, and it takes somebody quite wealthy to keep up the medical attention that the baby might need. Though I do agree, your own country babies are just as important and should be adopted too.
  • im not against it but it does make sense sometimes because we have many facility's to help most foriegn country's dont but it is many other issues tied up in this also
  • I think it's up to them where they adopt the children from personally.
  • Absolutely. We need to look after our own backyard first before helping others. I just don't get it.
  • A food for thought for them! Good suggestion!
  • I guess it's not as fashionable.
  • Instead of telling others where they should go to adopt, you could adopt children yourself, from wherever you think it's best. Sorry, but it rubs me the wrong way when somebody does a good deed, and somebody else comes along and suggests how they could have done it better. As Miss Awesome posted, "What difference does it make what country the child is from? If a child needs to be adopted, it needs to be adopted. Country of origin means nothing." I agree completely with her comments.
  • American adoptions are so 2002! The new line on Malasyians, Ballyhoo, and Rembranazatstan, are the latest of poor children who have no idea what the hell is going on!! Hooray, soon they will be transported to a house with various other little kids from all over the world, they could play UN ALLL DAY! Hooray! Then they will get carted around the world, never really having a childhood or parents because they're parents are too busy adopting them all sorts of little children to play with! They will all sit in a nursery all 6 of them, and be raised by maids and butlers!!! HOOORAYYY!!
  • I think it's up to them, living in America you'd think everyone in America would buy American cars but they're what least sell, it's a matter of opinion, why buy a car from Germany and not buy one from America which is the country you live in, it would seem right to support you Country's automobile industry Same goes for the adoption it all depends on the person and their preference
  • I would be more worried about the viewpoint of the child's. Alot of the children that have been adopted by celebrities from foreign nations don't know a word of english, don't know about first world country items, and customs. Then what about them will their new mommy and daddy help them remember the country where they came from and cook food that is from their country and play cultural music. No one wants to lose their heritage or culture overnight, even if the parent is a good one.
  • Those child need homes much more than children in America. Most people who want to adoopt have to go on a waiting list for an American child!
  • Yes I believe they should but they have to wait for children in Western Countries .In third World countries the fact they have money they can buy the child.
  • Why the publicity isn't as good.
  • childern in every country should be helped. but i think a lot of people lookin to adopt are not willing to give up to 10 years waiting for a child from their own country its really bad how long it can take in some countries.
  • Look - just think for a minute, okay? The US has some problems with poverty and orphans left on the street and homelessness. But THE WHOLE AFRICAN STATE is in that depressing mode. Think your question over, because it's rhetorical...
  • There are children out there that need more help in other places then do our children here.
  • I think in terms of the WHOLE world, not just a country.
  • What I think is that children are children, and regardless of country, the good is for them, and there are children everywhere who need help. No,we cannot save the world, but little by little,we can make a difference.*
  • oublicity??
  • Well, in Madonna's case at least, I'd just be happy if she stuck to orphans, instead of buying children with living relatives that had no intention of putting the girl up for adoption.
  • NO..I THINK THEY ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING...OF COURSE!!...IT WOULD BE OKEY TOO IF THEY DECIDE TO ADOPT ONE FROM THEIR COUNTRIES..
  • they are helping some child and that is what matters.
