  • rock. because its both a type of music the older generations (classic rock) can agree with the newer generations (classic and hard rock)
  • I enjoy rap at this point. It all depends really on my mood. When I want to just listen to beats and fun noises, rap all the way, when I want to hear music and yelling, rock is the only choice!
  • Rap of course, good beats & very poetic. I dunno how you can listen to plates smashing and voices yelling, there is no vocal talent in the Rock genre. It's all yelling, anyone can do that. However I admire the way they play the instruments.
    • Mr PantsFellDown
      Is this a joke answer?
  • I wanna ROCK N ROLL all night, and party everyday!!
  • Rock, by Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar!!! I hate rap.
  • Rock, no question. Southern Rock to be more specific.
  • This is a hard one, being that I'm ultimately a fan of both genres. Of course, I'd have to go with Rap, but where would I be without my Rock??
  • rock...it is a much wider genre, and can take in aspects of rap, but I don't think that rap is so flexible.
  • Rock, Classic Rock, Hillbilly Rock, Metal Rock, Rock and Roll, Blues Rock, Glam Rock, Hard Rock, Garage Rock, Pop Rock,.... ANYTHING BUT RAP!!!!!!
  • Rock. Because no rocker will ever need to re-make a rap song.
  • Rock, definitely.
  • Rap recently. In my travails I've discovered how insightful it is.
  • If I had to choose between just those two genres, I'd choose rap.
  • Rap...it makes me dance; Rock makes me sad and angry.
  • Rock/Rap like Run DMC, Kid Rock, Linkin Park and so on. I like them both apart from each other as well!
  • I like some rap, but I prefer rock. I'd have to go with rock.
  • Rock all the way.
  • They aren't even comparable because rap isn't even music. so.. my answer would have to be rock.
  • Both, thats why I love likin park so much, they combine the two music genres into one and make it sound awsome!
  • definately rock thats all i have in my cd collection
  • Definitely Rock
  • Rock, you don't see rappers going on American Idol lol. And besides, rap is screwing up our kids vocabulary.
  • rock,metal
  • Rock, I am not fond of rap.
  • pop/rock...i absolutely hate rap.
  • Pop/rock. It takes more skill to play an instrument than to bust a cap in someone's...well you know where I'm going with this. I don't like rap or hip hop.
  • rock all tha way! but mostly punk rock.
  • I definetely prefer rock but I don't mind rap now and then. I do get annoyed when a rapper takes and old rock song and turns it into a rap though.
  • i like very few rap songs and rappers and most rap songs are about degrading women, encourage hate, drugs, gangs and ignorance.doesn't this corrupt the youth?? then again there are some rappers who rap about breaking free from a life of drugs and crime but they are few in number.rock is cool some of it i listen to rock when im pissed some rock i think is plain bullshit but alot of times you can relate.
  • Classic Rock! My favorite band is AC/DC.
  • Definitely rock. It has MUCH more variety, history, trancendence and memorable performances.
  • Rock everytime.
  • Rock N Roll....
  • Rock all the way! I like it loud and the attitude behind most of it.
  • I choose rock... It rocks
  • I actually hate when anyone specifically doesn't like any WHOLE genre. It's dumb. No two songs in ANY genre are the same and it's really closed minded to just shut down to a whole style just cuz you haven't liked most of the songs. I think if everyone were to sit down and really DISCOVER rock or rap, they would find stuff they like. I like rock better, but probably a lot of that is because it encompasses WAAAAAAAAAY more styles than rap does. But yeah. I like all music basically.
  • Rock. I do not consider rap to be music. It is simply a medium to "hustle" other products and lifestyle accesories. (Such as shoes, diamond grills, spinning rims for your car, and certain high priced alcohols.) Rap is just about making money. I prefer music that has something more appealing to say. George Martin (the most famous record producer on the planet - he did all of the Beatles albums) did a great interview for Mojo magazine in 2006 and the last thing he said was: "Rap is not music."
  • Rap isn't music to me... I love listening to rock... Especially the older rock...
  • Rock. Rap is just noise to me, produced by talentless thugs and morons. In a proper world, it would not exist.
  • Rock music because it is closely tied to the blues which I like even more.
  • First of all, this question seems a touch biased to me. Why is the word music in quotations behind Rap, but not behind Rock? I listen to both, and some artists in the Rap genre are ridiculously boring, untalented, and unorigional. They consistently illuminate the negative in the societies and neighborhoods that they come out of, and don't do much positive at all. Some of the beats are horrible, some of the lyrics are comical, and some of the artists need to fire their stylists. I do like several rap artists, however, but I'm more into hip-hop. Rap is actually an acroynym for "Rhythmic American Poetry," which I think that a lot of people tend to forget or just not care about when listening to artists and music. Rock has come a long way from 10 years ago when I first started listening to it - don't know if you would classify early-late nineties as Alternative, but to me it was Rock. I like the instruments and some of the song concepts, but I have to be in the right mood to listen to it and really enjoy it. So, rap.
  • Rock music is awecome. rap just has this little beat adding on to others. Rock music has this vibe that always changes after a measure... Rock on!
  • ROCK.......rap is crap
  • Music, food, religion, politics, cars, etc. - all things where personal preference means everything, and there's no explaining or understanding the reasons most of the time. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
  • I wonder, how many of you rap AND rock bashers actually believe in the comments you write out, or were they just all you heard when you were growing up? Are they just all you hear from your friends or was it a concious decision made by you when you sat down and thought of why you would dislike something other than it has letters in common with the word crap.
  • Rock, and it's just my preference there is very little music that is actually "crap", As long as the music is real, and isn't just being produced for money I'm all for it. That being said it is common that Rap music gets the bad rap (no pun intended) b/c there's a lot more commercialism involved in it. I like Rock b/c it's mellow and easy to listen to, I find Rap to be way too heavy on the bass.
  • There are some good rap songs & much more good rock songs. I guess rap only if I'm in the rare mood but rock can be played most any time so I'm going to say rock. You called scissors so...
  • Rock music , Rap's crap. Rap ain't music , it's a person moaning about his life on amphetamines.
  • Rap, modern rock albums have failed to do anything for me lately. In fact, rap seems to be getting better while rock doesn't seem to be doing anything.
  • Rock, I find it hard to identify with anything in rap music. Rock has great tunes and often lyrics to match. A song is as good as it's lyrics.
  • DrMaxwell recommended "Dead Serious" in another thread. Here's a review from amazon: . Dang, I remember back in the early 90's when I was just a kid when the radio used to blast "Mic Checka" by Das EFX. That single reached #1 on the Billboard back in '92. Listening to Das EFX some 15 years later, I notice the origonal style "iggity", and how everyone jocked it. But Drayz and Scoob dropped the style first, and the "iggity" type rhymes could be found all over this album. "Mic Checka" was a dope song as the lead off song. Another song that stood out was "They Want EFX" with it's bumping beat, and head jerking rhymes. You also have more bumping tracks like "Looseys" which is about girls, and "If Only" as well. I would say the best track would be the last track "Straight Out The Sewer" as both Drayz and Skoob both kick dope verses. As for anything bad. I personally thought the "iggity" style was a little repetative. I can't be mad though, because that was Das' style and it was completely origonal, and had everyone bitting it. Nowadays if you'll get laughed at for using that style like Das EFX did. But back in '91, rap was fun and origonal, so it's all cool. Dead Serious is almost a classic in my opinion. With production by Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith of EPMD, you can expect a lot of great beats on here, as it sort of reminds me of Redman's Whut? Thee Album. 10 tracks deep with very little flaws, there is not much to ask for. Also this album is edited (a lot of early 90's rap never came with parantal advisory stickers), so expect a couple of edits in a few songs. They would follow up in '93 with Straight Up Sewaside. If you're a fan of origonal 90's rap, I recommend you check this out. Peace! In response to Andy Lucien's review: Are you serious thinking these guys were on crack? --------------- end of review --------------- That's all I know. Now ask me again why I prefer rock. - rdrainer
  • Rock. It takes skill, practice, and talent to learn how to play the instruments and then take all of the individual peices to play in harmony or grove with each other and create a song. The singer has to at least have a good voice or at least carry a tune(although not always the case) Rap is mostly sampling and you dont really even need to know what a note is let alone hit one.
  • Rock. Rap is not real music. It's someone talking to a synthesized drum beat (emphasis on synthesized). Rock actually has real instruments. Not that all rock is good, because there's still too much bad rock floating around, but there are also too many rap songs about the same thing, namely "let's get drunk", "let's get laid", "let's turn people on", it gets old really fast. Lastly, rock has so many different subgenres: punk rock, grunge, indie, brit, classic. Rap is just rap (or rap is crap as I like to say).
  • Rap (--,)
  • Rock on!
  • ROCK baby, YEAH!
  • Got to be Rap .... Each rapper does their own thing but its all genius in my opinion...
  • rock all the way ... you couldn't be serious and try and compare it with rap ....lol....lol... thats like 100year old "jack d" to cola ...and I know which I prefer to drink ....listening to rock!
  • Classic Rock all the way...
  • Rock :)
  • rap because i can relate to it a little more but i do like rock though
  • Both, but none of this modern main stream rap shit, give me jedi mind tricks or underground artists any day over "50 cent"
  • rock. you cant compare the two. rap is just talking to a rhythm, its not music at all.
  • Rock. There is some rap I can stand (ICP, old Dr. Dre) but for the most part rock is just... better. I mean, how can you compete with Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Lynard Skynard... (and so on).
  • Raised on Rock. So I was just given a negative rating. Cause I like Rock or my answer wasn't long enough? That's the problem w/music lovers. So many of you can't respect an opinion, just because you don't like it doesn't mean its not good. Generalizing one type of music as Good or Bad is the Ugliest sterotyping out there. You have to consider the musicians talent. I think there are some really horrible, excruciatingly BAD rock bands that sell records. That doesn't mean I hate Rock now. I've heard bad hip hop, bad rap, bad country, bad swing, bad jazz, bad latin and soooo many more. So, to make a statement of one type of music is better than the other as a sweeping generalization, then you have NO idea what music is about and your appreciation of music is based on a shallow and narrow experience of music.
  • very tricky!! i love both rap and rock...its pretty awesome to hear a good artist to mix both...but if i could only pick one id lean towards rap
  • Rock, hands down
  • rock, because it more variety and there not sing about tapping some bitch and they can actually play an instrument wich means they have some real talent
  • Rock....Metallica especially!
  • Either.
  • Classic Rock.
  • Either is fine, but I prefer rock. ozzy rules!
  • Neither. Nothing like good old rock and roll. Its like soul food and sticks to your ribs. The old songs you remember, the new whatever, is just a fad and no one remembers.
  • depends on the decade
  • ROCK and ROLL!!!!
  • Rock as I never could get into rap at all.
  • i like it all. but i listen to mostly rap for the beats in my car
  • Rock without a doubt
  • Rap. There are a bunch of rock songs that I enjoy, but if I had to choose one genre...there's a lot more crappy rock than crappy rap (for my taste)
  • Rock, can I hear it for Iron Maiden and AC/DC?
  • RAWK!!
  • Rock. They forgot the C in rap.
  • if you catch me dancing, it's gonna be reggueton [as close to rap as i usually get] but if you catch me doing hw, driving in the car...it's all about rock my friend
  • rap, lyrically adapt
  • I will go for rock
  • An open mind of diversity not dismissing one line till the entire song was heard,we all have different life styles its surprising what you can learn if your mind doesn't get offended by one verse. In fact the next song will shine a light on the first if not the first album, perhaps the next.Until you watch a good movie with the sound track you may never understand the context of the song.Pump up the base if a Semi is trying to merge over on you. What if the sound could wake someone up it could save your life. You should consider that every intersection should be acknowledged because sirens scream from the distance.Songs can keep you awake when you detest what you are listening to.Its pisses you off thats a good tool to test out.
  • ROCK! m/
  • Neither...those genres suck make mine Country
  • Two forms of the same disease, none.
