If the tree was sturdy and disease free it sounds wonderful.If you have to cut it however it would be cool to incorperate the lumber into the home or into some piece of furniture.

Frank Lloyd Wright did just that and also incorporated a natural stream that was on the land. I love his houses and the way he built according to the land and didn't just force the land to bend to his will.

Depending on the condition of the tree I might have it in the middle of a big courtyard. But it's true, insurance will be a night-mare!

The contract goes to that person who ensures that the tree stays in the most aesthetic way possible.

I would try to build the home near it, as long as it's healthy. Not sure I'd want it incorporated into the house plans. It would be too difficult to trim and a huge problem if it had to be removed.
