I say grinder!

I call it a sub. (East coast US =] )
-
To me, a submarine is a cold sandwich to me and a grinder is like a sub but hot. And you forgot to add po'boy. One of my friends calls them that.
-
sandwich
-
aren't all those things the same? bread meat chz ect.

You've lost me, it must be yet another case of two nations divided by a common language.
-
Sandwiches.

Yes, I think the point of the question is to find out what a particular person calls it. There are regional differences in the US as to what they are called.

Food

It depends on the bread used. For example, a Sub uses a 12" loaf of Italian style white bread. A Kaiser is a round bread, usually with some type of seed on top. A Grinder is a hot sandwich on 6" italian A Po'boy is WHATEVER is left over. And a Hero is one of those party "subs" that's 3 feet long or longer. He he... now ask me the difference between Coke, Soda and Pop.
-
It's a po'boy or a sub.
-
If it's on a long Italian roll it's a hoagie in Philadelphia. Hot, it's a grinder. A hero is served on a round roll or pita. We'd understand submarine, though it's not the preferred terminology. Those are those mediocre sandwiches they sell at Subway. Po' boys are New Orleans, and I always think of them as having something fried in them.

Lady is correct. The two main differents is the bread(don't think it's italian bread)and the fact that grinders are usually hot.Spfld,Ma baby!!!!
-
none of the above. it's a poor boy. (not really. I call it a grinder, hot or cold.)
-
it's a SAMMICH!! no matter what kind of bread, no matter what is inside, it's a SAMMICH!
-
I always say hoagie but according to some of these answers there is apparently a difference.
-
probably whatever it wants to be

A sub. I managed a Subway so I'll probably always call them that. But a grinder has a completely different meaning for me. In bootcamp that's where we did our exercises.
