My car wont go into 5th gear or reverse, will my car brake down if i drive it on a 4 hour trip?

Usually problems with the 5th gear will result in problems with reverse. If it were my car I wouldn't drive it to prevent further damage but you can if need be, just keep it at a reasonable engine speed.

5th gear wouldn't worry me so much as reverse, it's probably bent linkage or a pin that's fallen out of place ... so wouldn't it be smarter to get it checked out before you get into deeper trouble?
