  • I believe that it depends on your definition of an illegitimate child. If you see it as: a child born of parents who are not married, then once the lovers have married, the child becomes legitimate; as he/she was born of parents X and Y, who are married. If you see it as: a child who was born of parents who were not married (emphasis on "were not"), then he/she remains illegitimate forever, as he/she were born of two people who were not married, meaning that we are focusing on the attribute of being born of two people who are not married than the attribute of being born of two certain people, who are now (hopefully) married.
