  • My daughter has the same problem. She was told that they have been having lots of problems with it. They said the big bulky PS2's are really bad with this. They gave her a number to call but so far no help.
  • It could be a simple case of the actual disc being scratched. Don't think that "if it's scratched a tiny bit it will still work". This is not the case, the size of the scratch is not important, it's WHERE the scratch is. If the data used to load the CD is where the scratch is, then it wont work. However, it could be that you are trying to play a regional version that your PS2 is not able to play. for example, European PS2's use PAL, USA use NTSC, and Asia use JAP (it should say what version the disc is on the CD case, and you can find out what your PS2 is by looking in the configuration screen (when u turn it on without a game in it). Test it by trying to play the same disc on another PS2 (a friends perhaps), if it works, u know the problem is with YOUR PS2, if it doesnt, then you know the roblem is with the disc itself (in which case, the people you bought it off should refund you).
  • I bought the Guitar Hero World Tour with guitar in a sealed box. I also bought 3 more Guitar Hero games bundled (without guitar). The guitar works. The 3 other games work. The World Tour game is not readable by my system.
  • Same problem here.... Because ours was the bundle with all of the controllers we thought it was simply a case of a faulty game disk. Because our console works fine with 30+ other ps2 game titles that we would get another GH-4 game disk to try. It still did not work. To eliminate our console as being the problem even though I doubted it would be we tried it in other friends ps2 consoles and it would still not work (both brand new GH-4 disks. After many hours of searching forums and other technical support it would appear that the only way this problem has been solved were those who suspected their console and purchased a new one. Perhaps some built in redundancy software in the new GH-4 game disk or the anti-copy protection software in the new game has made it too sensitive on the older consoles (ours is the slimline and is 2 years old now) This problem appears to be widespread and I certainly hope that people take the makers to task. Because this game did not work we as parents who wanted our child to have a nice Christmas are now left to spend hours and hours on end trying to solve this issue. It's simply not on and is happening far to often these days with allot of hardware and software. There is no quality control being invested in by companies producing and selling software and hardware, they are simply relying on the consumer to do the quality control for them. Most of us probably cannot be bothered or simply accept the typical response from retailers saying such things as "It must be your console, you will need to get it repaired or buy a new one" Surely this is a perfect opportunity to sell more stuff right? I for one am sick of this and others should be too. For us now the only fix is to buy a new PS2, and I am sure there will be people saying things like, well it's only $$ this much now so stop complaining, but anyone who thinks that way is missing the point, and it goes further than that. What about the implications of a throw away mentality eh? Bottom line is Sony, and the game makers have either really screwed up or are looking for us all to just throw away and buy new. Sorry about the ramble but I am really really annoyed with this issue.
  • I found this answer at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081029133245AAkGd64 Per Walmart - If you read the fine print on the back of your Guitar Hero World Tour Box you will see this: "Licensed for play on Playstation systems with the NTSC U/C designation only. See inside for details." Apparently that is a chip that only the newer 90000 models ps2's have. Without it you're game will not work. Seems that some PS2 models are obsolete for playing this game.
  • We had the same problem, except we didn't have any other guitar hero disc to compare with. Have a 70000 series PS2 slim. It was very frustrating as other PS2 games, loaded right up. So you think, "Must be bad disc" Wrong!! We carefully cleaned the laser and it works!! Get a Q-tip, put the smallest amount of alcohol on it and slightly touch the laser with it for like a nano-second. Then use a another dry q-tip and VERY gently wipe the laser lense off. If you have purified or distilled water, it wouldn't hurt to perform the same operation as above to insure there is no alcohol residue on the lense.
  • We bought Rockband for our son for Christmas for his ps2 slim. It gave a disc error. After a little research online, we found this to be a common problem. We took it back and bought GHWT. Same thing happened. With all of the problems and no real answers except to buy a new system or replace the laser, maybe someone should consider a class action lawsuit against the companies. Maybe then they would do something about the problem. There are too many disappointed kids out there because of this issue.
  • The place I purchased this asked for a review.... LOL Here is what I wrote. I don't think they will publish it though. heheheh Review of GHWT Bundle: Totally disappointed. Game disk will not work which of course makes everything else obsolete and useless. our PS2 console has been checked out and is 100% perfect running order. Because it was a main Christmas present for one of our children it was important that we do something quickly to sort it out for him and drove an hour to buy another disk hoping that was the problem but unfortunately the new game disk did not work either. Tried them both in our neighbors newer ps2 console and it wouldn't work on that one either. So it's been a huge Christmas day let down, and has cast a shadow of disappointment over the whole holiday. Research on the Internet has revealed to us that this problem is widespread on the ps2 console so there is some explaining to do by the makers and marketers for not doing their quality control properly. Hopefully this issue can be resolved quickly so I can actually test the game and bundled controllers out and write a proper objective review.
  • Hello Everyone, I wish I had better news for you but there seems to be a compatibility problem that prevents GHWT to be played on many if not most PS2 systems. Whether Activision wants to admit this or not remains to be seen. This problem seems to be widespread. How they will respond to this will remain to be seen as well. I have bought/returned 4 bundles from 3 different stores and all 3 stores have had no idea of the problem. However, if you look at the box your game/controllers came in, just under the PS2 logo, there is the NTSC U/C designation. This is very upsetting. I too have been relegated to the hell of going back and forth to try to get a game that works for my kids to enjoy. In my adventures I have found out that our PS2 (Slimline 70000 series) console will not work. I have also read that some of the newer NTSC U/C systems that are having problems too. This can be fixed on some systems by: turn off system remove disk. power on system with no disk in console. the system configuration screen will appear, choose version (triangle) button scroll to Playstation Driver Press triangle again for options, change disk speed to FAST Change texture mapping to SMOOTH Insert game disk and reboot the system. This fix works for some, but not for most. But give it a try before packing the game up. My question is how can these companies market something that they know doesn't work? Just think about all the kids out there who have been let down when they find out their game will not work with the console they have. What's worse is, the parents who will have to go out and buy a new console so the system will work, because their kids counted on getting this game. (Which has been relentlessly marketed I might add) If you are one of the unfortunate people that have a console that will not run the game, I suggest carefully repacking the game and taking it back for a full refund. Unless of course, you want to buy a new console with the newer NTSC U/C chip modifications needed to run GHWT. This game just came out in November. Many of the games were purchased as Christmas gifts. Only in the past couple of days have I seen the internet beginning to buzz about this issue. As people begin to return the games, Activision (AV) will have to do more than boast about how many systems they have sold since the release date. The only way for the consumer to fight back is to return the defective (uh..incompatible) games to the location they were purchased. The retailer has the utmost responsibility to make the purchaser aware of this issue prior to making the sale. For this reason alone, they are responsible for making the refunds. There have been some indications that the manufacturer has notified some of the retailers of this problem.. Wal-Mart, Best Buy & Plug -n- Play are making returns. The yellow piece of paper that came in the gamebox is not worth the ink it's printed with. This is how the manufacturer tries to prevent a blizzard of returns while they try to iron out the issues the game has. If the person who sold you the game did not inform you of the NTSC U/C compatibility issue (which is clearly printed on the box, and noted on the actual box the game disk is in..) Then it is the responsibility of retailer to take the game back. Let them deal with (AV). Let me assure you, (AV) will do very little to help the consumer at this point. Because they can't.
  • Hi, Aquanut, I'm not sure the NTSC U/C designation is the answer. That typically just means North American Compatible - they do that with VHS tapes, DVD movies, and so on. The U/C means US and Canada. European systems would have PAL. My PS/2 has the designation NTSC U/C but is the in the slimline 70000 series model. In fact it is: SCPH-75001. I simply cannot believe the number of people out here who are having problems with just that one game. I think it is the game and how it was not made well for the PS/2 slimline systems. But even so - it seems to me that a PS/2 should be a PS/2 whether it is chunky, silver or slimline. After all - PC software works on a desktop or a laptop, different windows versions - you don't have to go out and buy different versions of the software because you have a laptop or notebook versus a desktop.
  • Here's what I did to fix the same problem on my PS2 (Slim model # SCPH-70012). This should work for all models of PS2's. (Slim or Fat). Sony says all models can read a dual layer disc. If the fix doens't work then you need to send in your PS2 for service. 1) Start up the PS2 with no disc in it. 2) Highlight the 'Browser' menu and press the 'green triangle' button. 3) Highlight the 'Console' menu and press the 'green triangle' button. 4) Highlight the 'Diagnostics' menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'ON'. 5) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu. 6) Highlight the 'PlaystationDrive' menu and press the 'green triangle' button. 7) Highlight the 'Disc Speed' menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'FAST'. 8) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu. 9) Turn off your PS2. 10) This step is optional.......I blew into the main unit to loosen any dust out of it and then carefully used my shirt to wipe across the lens at the back of the drive. I'm not sure if this mattered or not. Since I did this in conjuction with the above steps I can't say if this is needed. 11) Insert the disc and turn the PS2 back on. The diagnostics should run and automatically adjust your PS2 to play the game. I was amazed! Mine loaded right up after several previous days of nothing. 12) I checked the settings after the initial load and the Diagnostics and Drive speed reset to normal so it must be a one time run thing. My game has loaded everytime since and I haven't had to re-do the settings at all. I hope this works for you too!!
  • We had the same issues with our PS2. We went to circuit city and purchased a newer model still the 7000 series (silver slim line) and it worked just fine. I don't know why, but my 3 boys are happy finally. It is a shame we had to purchase a new system to play this game. Very upsetting. We also tried changing the configurations to fast and smooth and it didn't work for our model. Good luck to all with this issue. The quick fix seems to be to purchase a newer model, and our wasn't more than a year old. We had the 7000 series slim line in black.
  • Ok here is the deal as far as we are concerned with this issue. We purchased the full bundle of this game with the drums etc and as with others the game would not load in our ps2. Ours is the slim line black not that that should matter really as the game is sold to work for the playstation 2..... There is nothing in the advertising or system specifications etc stating that ours would not be compatible.... Geeezzzz it's a playstation 2 ffs..... Ours is the 70002 model. As with others we assumed because we have so many other older and new ps2 games that work perfectly every time as well as DVD movies and music CD's we felt that the problem would be with the new GHWT disk. Because it was for Christmas and I was not looking forward to having 3 very disappointed boys we drove for over 1 hour to our local electronics dealer to buy another GHWT disk believing this would probably fix the problem, after all we could return it once the faulty disk was replaced if that was in fact the problem. Second disk didn't work either. I decided to take the two disks next door to my neighbours who had a ps2 newer than our own.... Didn't work in their one either. Looked online for hours scouring the net for forums like this to see if others were having this problem and a possible fix. Tried everything suggested but still the game would refuse to load.... (We have just about every other guitar hero released and they all work). Very frustrated I contacted the online store we purchased the bundle from and they said nothing could be done until the middle of Jan... Very pissed off at that I wrote to them stating that the game was not compatible with our ps2 and requested a GRA (goods return authorization) number utilizing the 7 day right of return policy in New Zealand for online purchases. (6 days used up already resolving, "wasting time" on this issue). They were very quick to respond stating that they would courier out another disk for us to try. It arrived this morning..... with high hopes I put the disk in, but it was not to be, still would not work. I then called up the dealer who gave me the disk to try (gave us a full refund on btw) and asked if they had any new ps2 consoles and they said they had 2 left. I got them to hold one and said I would purchase it on the condition that we could try it with our game at the shop..... Fortunately I know the manager there and he was happy to oblige.... The new version was the 90002 and the game loaded up no problem at all..... So our problem has been solved by doing exactly what I think sony would like us all to do, by buying a new unit. It's almost like random built in, or should I say forced redundancy here in our case. Looks like Anonymous below and I have fallen for it, but I will still try chtrich nicely laid out instructions below and see if I can get our 70002 unit to play it as well..... Thanks for that. Well this kind of problem seems to be happening more often now days where we the consumer are expected to do the quality control and also trouble shoot and find solutions for these people who sit back, pay for no quality control and roll in the money...... It only took me the best part of a full week now.... every day hammering away at the issue. It is a shame they don't pay us an hourly rate to fault find for them....... hehehe Good luck to all who have yet to resolve this issue.... Cheers.
  • same shit happened to me and im really pissed off. my ps2 is model no.79001 and people say that u can go into the system configurations and change the settings of the speed of the disc to fast but that dosen't do anything if someone has any other suggestions for what i should do email me at: devingareis@hotmail.com please tell me im sooo bored with out my rockband 2 and my guitar hero world tour. oh yea and i tried using the rubbing alchohol so dont send me that eather
  • it wouldnt work on mine ethier until i messed with it what i did is turned the ps2 on it side and leand it against the wall.then when i turn it on i tap the back wher the game is loading an it would load right up.
  • ty chtrich worked like a charm
  • I just bought the drum set for my son who turned 7 today. He ripped the wrapping paper off and was so excited I thought he might shed tears of joy! Honestly. Well, I put everything together and low and behold, it didn't work. I have the slimline as well. I refuse to buy a new console. I can't even I wanted to. I am going to find somebody that sells hot items! This company deserves all the worst that could happen. I am royally pissed off. I am spreading the word and I hope they get ripped off as much I have been ripped off.
