If a woman is wearing it then I call it a tank top if a man is wearing it then I call it a wife beater.

I call it a Tank Top if it covers to the waist, Crop Tank if it shows the ribbs and belly button and a Crop Top if it has skinny straps going way down just covering boobs and just under the Bra line( my personal Fav) for maximum body contact in public!

In New Jersey, it used to be called a 'guinea tee'--no longer PC. The term was replaced by 'wife beater'.

I wear these daily under my dress shirts and also under any type of casual shirt. The correct terminology is sleeveless undershirt or athletic undershirt (A-shirt). The slang term wife-beater is a unacceptable.

It depends on which shirt. Snug sleevless tee = muscle shirt. White ribbed tank top = wife beater. Any other full length tank top I call a tank top. Showing the belly = belly shirt or crop top. I may or may not clarify with "spagetti" in front of any of those to signify that it has very thing string like straps (spagetti straps).
