  • i doubt all are
  • I don't completely agree, but there are religions that are evil. Some more evil then others, but they're out there.
  • maybe not all EVIL cults - but all religions are cults
  • No, although I am an Atheist, I wouldn't call Zen Buddhism or Jainism "evil cults". "Misguided", maybe - but that's a matter of opinion.
  • Some are benevolent cults.
  • Do you always listen to your dad?
  • no, evil is a concept of religon, so the the very statement is contradictory.
  • Couldn't agree more; however, I believe that all religions are cults
  • No. They are all cults, but several of them do and have done a lot of good work throughout Centuries, like creating Universities and Hospitals all over the world. That's the complete opposite of evil.
  • I don't think so. Just ask your Father/Dad to read from the Bible, in the book of James Chapter 1 V-27. And see what he says then...........Good Luck.
  • There are some religions that started out as the cults you see on TV and sometimes are persecuted as being "evil" by the majority religion. Jesus could have been considered a "cult leader" in his time even though the religion is a major religion in the current era. "Evil" can define quite a number of things. Someone could be evil by simply eating meat or drinking milk. It really depends on who you are asking. Perhaps, he believes that since people have killed or hurt others because of their religion. I.e. the crusades, etc, that they all must be evil, I guess.
  • Hes half right, they are all cults but not all evil.
  • If you ask a religious person, you know what your answer will be... I, personally, am assumed to be a religious person by my attire, although innately I believe myself to be an atheist. Trying not to be biased, I disagree to that statement of ALL religions are evil. I'm sure if you thought about it for a second, you would know the answer to your own question. Those who kill others in the name of religion, are evil. But many religions just believe in god and have their own cultures/rituals, but they're not evil in any angle. They help so many people, but just have their own seprate beliefs. What's wrong with that? Just because you value different things, doesn't mean you don't have any sense of humanity.
  • A cult is a group that claims to have unique or special knowledge that nobody else has, makes you associate only with its members and teaches that the outside world is out to get you, and usually has a charismatic leader that gives himself special privileges and must be totally obeyed. . Most regular religions acknowledge that other religions have some value, don't try to control your personal life like that, and don't have such leaders. . So... no.
  • I think that your dad is half right. Some are and some are just the kind of people that need to group in order to justify their ideals and opinions. They believe they have cornered the market on the correct way to reach God and they find like minded people to join in their revalry and strengthen their resolve.
  • No, such a generalisation says more about the ignorance of the speaker than it does about the nature of religions.
  • No and he is judging God that will not work in the end.
  • I most certainly do agree because I have seen alot of different religious people throughout my life. They be trying to talk/brainwash bullcrap into people minds; hoping someone would join only their church. then u have other people ringing your door bell early 7am in the morning to talk about "God". they just get this adrenaline rush when they piss people off. :D lol I can't stand when people are so fake about wanting to believe in a religion. They are in church, then the next thing you know; they are out in the street sinning 24/7. A bunch of hipocrits. No one is perfect
  • Tell your dad he's a moron for me :D
  • all religions have some truth in them. so none are evil cults. you can't disprove god, you can't prove he exists either.
  • I don't think any of them are evil besides being a Satanist, though I DO think they're all hypocritical.
  • If Dad says so, it MUST be right and the rest of the World is wrong :o)
  • The dark trinity (christianity, islam, and judaism) are evil cults. Other religions are not really cults but spiritual programs. There are many more cults out there than just the three I have listed above.
  • My partner tends to view all organized religions as viral cults. By definition, all religions can qualify as cults. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cult Whether or not they are evil (or viral) is defined by the perception of the individual. I, personally, do not believe they are.
  • no thats his opinion and i he is a sadist?
  • Religions and cults are nothing more than philosophies and Ideas. It is what people do as a result of those philosophies and ideas that are evil. Blame the human not the idea.
  • what does your dad think will happen to him when he dies?
  • Right off the bat I'll say that I agree. Allow me to clarify. I'm not considering Buddhism,Taoism, Janism or Hinduism to be included in "all religions". I'd put them down as ancient traditions & practices for the time being. I don't think they belong alongside the monotheistic western giants when these charges are rendered. The Judeo-Christian tradition has always been about control through intimidation. The old testament is filled with stories of a god exhibiting the very human traits of jealousy, anger and vengefulness. And an unrestrained willingness to punish, kill and make mankind suffer. The one chance at salvation was obedience. When a Roman Emperor adopted an obscure but growing cult steeped in powerful themes of sacrifice and martyrdom, Roman subjects converted or faced death. Eventually Christianity ,masculine and stern, displaced any and all of the more feminine and nurturing pagan religions by threat or force. Ambitious men found that the precedent set by Judaism of a holy text offers a way to lock in power. Since the old testament suited their cause very well, all that was needed was to append it with a new story, tailor made for brainwashing their future subjects. They made one God three to make it easier for the pagans to swallow. The beauty of it was that the entire population was illiterate. The newly formed Catholic church would be the sole interpreter of the word of God. The clergy were a greedy, corrupt and debaucherous crew (as so many of them are today). Certain groups became appalled by the church's decadence and started telling the faithful that they could have their very own copy of the bible and that it was not possible to buy their way into heaven. Selling real estate in heaven was the pope's main gig at the time so he didn't think that that was very funny. So he ordered a hit. The Protestants and Catholics had high ideals as they killed and brutalized each other over hundreds of years. Wouldn't you like to acquire millions of tithing minions? If you can say "Praise Jesus" like you're having an orgasm, you may have a future in the God industry...Hallelujah! I think it's unwise to underestimate the motivating factor in the lust for power. Religion was invented by self-serving greedy men to manipulate people like you and me for their own personal gain. But religion is losing it's appeal as people are wising up. (Europe is over it). The new "I want to rule the world" types are buying up blocks and blocks of Media Markets. That's right the new Pope is....drumrole....fanfare....: - Rupert Murdock- . And you thought the news was really the news. BZZZZZZZZZ ... It's today's sermon and you don't need to trust who's reading it baby. Just have faith.
  • No, just because there are some questionable ones, doesn't mean they are all bad.
  • All religions are cults. Not all cults are evil. But damned if evil people don't use said cults to the best(worst) of their abilities.
  • My dad used to say the same thing! I'm not quite as harsh as that! ;-)
  • I don't believe that, however most religions are blasphemic, like the state church in norway; I mean "what the fuck," they have gay and female priests, which rival some of the very basic foundations of what a truly christian believe in. God - Jesus - Men - Women, it is said not to different from that in the bible, although I'm not christian, blasphemy tickles some of my nerves, no matter how it's performed.
  • I don't believe. That i think that some are but not all. I mean if the religion is asking you to do bad things than yah. But then again people's definition of bad differs from person to person. I jus want to throw out there don't just think that all are becuz of your dad make that choice on your own and your choice should not be affected by anyone else. :)
  • No. As much as I don't agree with religion, the basis of it is a really good system for people to follow as far as the golden rule and stuff like that, it gives people hope in the most dire straits.
  • I don't think evil out right but there is many what I think is following wrong information. Two sides to any story, look at both sides and many things come to light. I think like many other groups there is a bid difference what's told in the front and find the back room and something else is taking place. As one person said imposable to talk to anyone that knows everything.
  • No. Most religions have good intentions and to call them evil is going a bit too far. Murderers are evil. Not organizations that do charity work etc.
  • I'm not a religious person but I don't agree with that.
  • There's a seeker born every minute
  • Your father is 1/2 right and 1/2 wrong. All religions have sects that are cults; but there are also liberal sects of all religions that are not cults. For example, Lutherans are Christians and aren't a cult. However, I went to a Baptist church that was a cult. So, your dad is right and wrong all at the same time.
