Answer a couple of his "why" questions and then switch to a total different topic to bring his mind on something else.

to tell them to be quiet or no sweets for a week1 or tell them no good treats or things that are nice is going to happen .

Tell them what I was told and what my children were told "Because I say so". You do no need to explain your reasons to a child, after a while they will know not to ask.
-
Say, "Tell me why you think it is like that." Not mean but interested in what they have to say. Also, you can say, I don't know. Why don't you do research to find out and share it with me. Of course this one is for children that know how to research.
-
because im the parent and i said so. lol!!

Answer them, teach and impart. Its empowering to both parties. Of course, if they're just trying to wind you up that's a different matter.

You should take the time to tell them why, this is how they learn.
-
answer them. and when you come to one you don't know, or tire of it say, "I don't know."

"Why?!" you-"CUZ!!!"

Be patient and give them the best answer you can. The day will come when they would rather bathe in acid than ask you a question.
-
Answer them or give them other ways to discover it.
-
get them in a loop (a circle of answers)
-
I like Louie CK's approach. =P Listen to the entire thing, he gets in to why later on in the clip. But the entire thing is hilarious.
-
Tell them you appreciate the fact that they want to know about everything they can. Encourage the "why's" and guide them to resources that can answer that question. Let them do the discovery on their own. But, you can give them an ansewr as well. (provided you have one). Never deter a child from learning. They ask out of curiosity. Remember, knowledge is power.

By giving meaningful replay!

A quick smack on the butt followed by "shut up and stop bugging me". Worked for me.
