when I moved to Portland, Or, I was quickly corrected on the pronunciation of Oregon. You don't say the second "o." Its Oregn.

Over here..that would be Arkansas.....how the hell can a "s" become a "w".

From an outsider's point of view, definitely Arkansas. Never knew how to pronounce it correctly until recently.

I didn't realise Arkansas was 'saw', not Ar-Kansas, until last year. EDIT: T'be fair, I also remember thinking the last syllable of Illinois was pronounced 'nwa' (like a French sound), and when I realised that was wrong I moved on to "Ill-ih-noise". Oops!

Maryland. Americans pronounce it Marra-Lynn for some reason.

Don't know about other places, but here in Missouri about half the people say Missoura. It's an "i", people! It's clearly an "i"!
