  • It has a great deal in common with the other mainstream religions that emanated from the same region of the earth.

  • Islam is a NATION. It is a people. It has a political system and a legal system. It only lacks a territory. . It's political agenda is fair to discuss, and to criticize. Its methods, its foreign policy, its stand on human rights, its politicians and spokesmen are all fair game. . Like the Moral Majority, and other evangelical political organizations, its religious root matter not at all. . We should take a close look. .
  • It seems to be quite popular.
  • The war on terrorism is a war on islam, and it is impossible for a pseudo Christian nation to adequately supress Middle Eastern muslims if we stray from the faith of our Forefathers, and what is more, it is impossible if we are fighting a civil war simultaneously with the overseas war.
  • Islam is a religion of peace... however there are some bad apples who are far left or far right radicals who aren't True Muslims... they only think they are...
  • That it makes no more sense than any other religion.
  • That 99% of them are good people, just as in every other demographic.
  • That I'm not forced to practice it.
  • It does manage to tell people to do good works and charity (of course this by no means makes up for negative teachings of Islam). It tries to set standards for rights, responsibilities, and ethics, and some of those standards are fairly decent. It makes no less sense than any other religion, and Muslims have not yet managed to kill as many people as Christians have.
  • Not a damn thing since all I got to go on is what I see on tv. Lots of bad people who claim to be followers of Islam making the good followers look ugly to the rest of the world.
  • God is God, I don't see why the hell it should matter who prophecieses what. I just don't get it. But, it being a major religion, I think it's still in its infantile state, due to the slow social and technological evolution of its nation. Though Christianity is responsible for shaping major parts of the modern world, Islamic religion is just as bloodthirsty and direct as Christianity once was in the witch burning days, example. I wouldn't really blame the religion or the beliefs though, but rather the absolute convictions that people bring to them, and the methods used to keep it alive. They're humans, just like the rest.

  • Historically, Islam has been a very tolerant religion. And, it is argued that a good deal of the knowledge from Ancient Greece that sparked the Renaissance in Europe was recovered from conquered Islamic peoples. So on the whole, they have historically been more educated and accepting than European Christians have been. So aside from the psychotics who think blowing themselves (and a lot of others in the process) up is the road to salvation, the followers of Islam have done a lot of good for the world.
  • The Catholic Church teaches, "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day." "It is my ardent hope that Muslim and Christian religious leaders and teachers will present our two great religious communities as communities in respectful dialogue, never more as communities in conflict." -- Pope John Paul II, Meeting with Muslim Leaders in Omayyad Great Mosque, Damascus, May 6, 2001. http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/speeches/2001/documents/hf_jp-ii_spe_20010506_omayyadi_en.html Christians and Muslims, following their respective religions, point to the truth of the sacred character and dignity of the person. This is the basis of our mutual respect and esteem, this is the basis for cooperation in the service of peace between nations and peoples, the dearest wish of all believers and all people of good will. As an illustration of the fraternal respect with which Christians and Muslims can work together, I would like to quote some words addressed by Pope Gregory VII in 1076 to a Muslim prince in North Africa who had acted with great benevolence towards the Christians under his jurisdiction. Pope Gregory spoke of the particular charity that Christians and Muslims owe to one another “because we believe in one God, albeit in a different manner, and because we praise him and worship him every day as the Creator and Ruler of the world.” -- Pope Benedict XVI, Meeting with the President of the Turkish Religious Affairs Directorate in Ankara, Turkey, November 28, 2006. http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/november/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20061128_pres-religious-affairs_en.html Dialogue are already taking place all over the world. Just in the United States there is the - Midwest Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims - Mid-Atlantic Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims - West Coast Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 841: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p3.shtml#841 and http://www.usccb.org/seia/islam_index.shtml With love in Christ.
